A Lot Like Christmas #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
We’re cold and rainy here today. A good day to stay indoors to enjoy the Christmas lights and the central heating.
What are you reading?
For the third week in a row, I’m reading A Lot Like Christmas by Connie Willis. It’s a chunkster. That’s less noticeable for e-books. According to StoryGraph, the print copy is 544 pages. The good thing about a long book is that I don’t have to figure out what I’m reading next. Libby says that I’m 94% of the way through, so I’ll be facing that decision soon enough.
What are you watching?
We watched Black Doves on Netflix which has been getting a lot of buzz, especially for the performances of Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice, Colette) and Ben Whishaw (Mary Poppins Returns). Rick thought it was too dark, but I got a kick out of the juxtaposition of the holiday season in London with a comically gory plot.
What are you doing?
I took a tour of London from the comfort and convenience of my desk. Jane Austen’s Christmas, a virtual tour by London Walks, was both suitably festive and a happy walk through my favorite city.
What are you up to this fine Sunday?
I liked your Jane Austen tour post. Will need to look for black Doves, I like Keira Knightley.
Long books can be very rewarding and well, long.
I love those London walks and your Jane Austen post. So dreary outside today!
I love the idea of taking a Jane Austen Christmas walk in London. I’ve always wanted to go to England, but it looks like the only way I will is virtually.
I’ve been reading a book about Lincoln’s presidency for weeks. It’s 917 pages.
I’m intrigued by the virtual tours London Walks offers, thanks for sharing
Wishing you a great reading week
My husband has been wanting us to watch Black Doves. I do love Keira Knightley but it is good to know that is slightly gory. Have a great week and happy reading!
I love Keira Knightly so I might check out Black Doves. I was looking at the actor Wiki pages and the other female star, Sarah Lancashire, has had a heck of a career! One series or movie that she was in caught my eye because it is based off a book. The Rotters Club. Then I learned that book is part of a series of books. Noooo! I don’t have enough hours in my day to read and watch all the stuff I want to read and watch. LOL
I love virtual walking tours, but try to stay away from them because I am not good at cutting myself off. I definitely have a screen addiction. Sigh.
The London Walks virtual tours sound intriguing! Do you have to take them at specified times, or can you link on any time? A Lot Like Christmas is indeed a chunkster! More importantly, is it good, and are you enjoying it?
The London Walks are at a specific time, on a Zoom call.
Yes! I just finished A Lot Like Christmas. I liked it and I’ll get a review up in the next couple of days.
I have A Lot Like Christmas, I’ll read it next year.
Hmmm, a virtual tour of London sounds very tempting right now!
I am also tempted by the Black Doves show. Haven’t started it yet though.
Have a great week!
Yeah we watched Black Doves too. I think we have one episode left, I’m a bit on the fence about it. It is pretty crazy but the performances sort of save it. We’ll see. It is nice seeing parts of London.
I do like that ebooks show how far along in the book you are. I only update my progress on Goodreads when reading an ebook. I just don’t want to do the math for a print book.
I will have to check out the virtual walking tour.
