The Election from the UK POV #BriFri
Welcome to British Isles Friday! British Isles Friday is a weekly event for sharing all things British and Irish — reviews, photos, opinions, trip reports, guides, links, resources, personal stories, interviews, and research posts. Join us each Friday to link your British and Irish themed content and to see what others have to share. The link list is at the bottom of this post. Pour a cup of tea or lift a pint and join our link party!
Last week, I reviewed the television series, Wolf Hall. Marianne of Let’s Read added to the topic by sharing her reviews of all three of the Hilary Mantel novels about Thomas Cromwell and King Henry VIII.
I haven’t had much energy for the blog this week. There are some British things that have provided relief from paying attention to things in my own country.
One is the latest season of the Great British Baking Show. New episodes are released each Friday on Netflix. I know very little about baking, but even I can see that amateur baking in the UK has become very sophisticated.
Another Netflix show is pleasing me, right now — The Diplomat. It’s about the American ambassador in London, illuminating a world that I find fascinating. I’m sure that I’ll devote a #BriFri post to it soon, but I still have a couple of episodes to watch.
In the meantime, this video helped me understand how the UK is thinking about the US election.
Ugh, I spelled Turn wrong but only noticed After I hit enter, hahaha
The British Baking show I have only seen ohce when I had access to streaming and loved it! Would watch again whenever I have chance. Thanks for the video clip on the election, will watch that next.
I’m curious about the UK pov about Trump so I’m off to watch that video now!
We are long-time fans of the Great British Baking Show. This year they are keeping to a selection of British breads and pastry, which is interesting. They had some big embarrassments when they tried certain non-British foods, as there was some rather painful ignorance displayed. So a recent one I watched included the famous pudding called “Spotted DIck.” Did you see that one? Also banoffee pie, which I’ve never seen in the US.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Yes. I enjoyed both of those segments. I had to look up ‘banoffee.’ I’d been thinking it was bananas and coffee, for some reason. Fortunately, it’s bananas and toffee, which sounds much better.
I want to watch the UK reaction video … but I think I need a bit more time still. I’m glad you linked to it though.
The Great British Baking Show is a great escape for me right now.
