Last week, I watched Bryony Page win gold for Team GB on the trampoline. Tina enjoyed Trust Her by Flynn Berry, a follow up to Northern Spy. Both books are about two sisters caught up in events between the IRA and MI5, a very dangerous place to be.
Let’s wrap up the Olympics for Team GB!
Team GB took us on a tour of their prep camp and some behind-the-scenes in Paris.
Great Britain is one of only five teams that competed in every one of the Summer Olympic Games in the modern era (the US and Russia boycott, occasionally). Team GB is the only team to win at least one gold medal at every Summer Olympics.
Overall in 2024, Team GB performed the best in Cycling, Track & Field, and Rowing. They won multiple golds in events in Rowing, Cycling, and Equestrian.
Cycling medals went to Team GB in five out of six of the women’s track events, including the gold for the Team Sprint. Some of the track cyclists got together for a game of Jenga that included answering questions about their sport and lives.
In recent Olympics, Team GB came home with between 64 and 67 medals. They were right in that target zone again this year with 65 — 14 gold, 22 silver, and 29 bronze.
The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan attended the Olympics in Paris with the intent to lobby the powers-that-be for a return of the Olympics to London, promising that they would reuse venues from 2012, reducing environmental impact (and, presumably, expense). Tom Daley, the diver I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, liked the idea saying, “London is one of the few cities on the planet where you would be able to host the games tomorrow.”
I’m looking forward to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, but I would love to see a return to London, too. How about you?
