Last week, I followed two Team GB athletes — Tom Daley in synchronized diving and Laura Collett in equestrian eventing.
Trampoline is an Olympic Sport that doesn’t get a lot of attention. It all happens in one day — qualifications and finals for both men and women. The 2000 Olympics in Sydney were the first to feature trampoline.
I enjoyed the Women’s Final. Bryony Page of Team GB won the gold medal at age 33. That “completed her set” according to the announcer. She won the silver medal at the Olympics in 2016 and the bronze in Tokyo in 2021.
Page ended her routine with a big smile — it was easy to see that she was satisfied with her performance. When she received the score that put her in first place she shouted and then, collapsed to the ground because she was so overwhelmed.
Here is her interview with Sky Sports News. My two favorite bits are when she said that she is a Team GB nerd, once her Olympic day is over, and when she said she wants to join the circus.
This might be the coolest fact about Bryony Page from her Wikipedia article: She wrote her dissertation on the sounds made by dinosaurs.
