Preparing for Paris 2024 #Olympics #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
We’ve had three delightful days with lower temperatures and, more importantly, less humidity. I avoided walking for a couple of weeks, but I just finished my third one in three days.
What are you reading?
I reviewed two books this week.
The Narrowboat Summer by Anne Youngson is about two middle-aged women at crossroads in their lives who end up piloting a narrowboat together. If a summer vacation along the canals of England sounds good, The Narrowboat Summer is a great way to experience it without expensive travel or jet lag.
Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist by Judith Heumann was our book club selection for this week. We had a great discussion. I was relieved that I wasn’t the only one who turned out to be nearly oblivious to the disability rights movement, even though it happened during my lifetime. I’m glad to have that knowledge, now.
What are you watching?
In preparation for the Olympics in Paris, I subscribed to Peacock and I’m watching the coverage that they produced over the last year or two leading up to the Olympics next week. The Opening Ceremony is on Friday and some competitions will begin on Wednesday. My intention is to watch more Olympics this year than I have since I was 14 and Nadia Comăneci was the highlight of the 1976 Olympics.
What are you doing?
Since I’m taking a month off of the manuscript for my novel, I’m playing around with my characters. We’re having fun together, sharing memories and answering goofy questions like “What do you daydream about?” and “What is your earliest memory?”
How are you this fine Sunday?
Good to hear that you are having some nice days after all the terrible heat. Enjoy the Olympics!
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
The Narrowboat Summer seems like a good match for you this summer, Joy.
We are due to have a rare cool front come in here along the Texas Gulf Coast tomorrow. I’m eagerly looking forward to this.
Until I met my friend’s friend who is in a wheelchair, and until we started doing things with her, and until I heard her stories, I had no awareness of the difficulties of getting around, even with all the laws that have been put in place.
Both of your reads are on my list, especially the book about Heumann.
I had forgotten the Olympics are set to start soon. Maybe I need Peacock so I can watch some coverage too. have a great week!
I am hot…and unlike you am struggling to get my walking mojo back. I leave the house with intention and then the heat just hits me.
Sprint on Netflix was what kickstarted my Olympics interest this year; not enough of the Jamaicans for me (as a Caribbean view) but still good viewing.
The Narrowboat sounds like a good way to tour around England. I too am excited about the Paris Olympics and watching some of the events. I’m game for watching anything … but I especially like track and field. Enjoy your watching.
The Olympics! I’ve totally forgotten about them with all the political hullabaloo taking most of the news. I remember Nadia Comenice so well! It’s lovely to hear her mentioned here, as so often I bring up memories and get a blank stare in return.
I need to figure out how I can watch the Olympics. I don’t have regular TV and I don’t have Peacock.
I’ve been running/jogging less too because of the heat. I did get out on Wednesday, but I have to rest a bit while healing now. I hope to get up early and beat the heat and get out more. Glad to hear you had some nicer weather and took advantage of it. The Narrowboat Summer sounds like a wonderful story and I absolutely love the cover! I don’t know anything about the disability act either. I should educate myself. Hope you have a lovely week, Joy!
I’m glad to hear the temperature has been nice enough for you to get out and walk. It’s still too hot where I am to get outside unless we go up in the mountains. I hope you have a great week! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
