Sunday Salon for 24 March 2024
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
We got cold again! We should have some nice spring days this week, though.
What are you reading?
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett, performed by Meryl Streep, was such a treat. It’s set partially in a summer stock theater a few decades ago and partially during the first summer of the pandemic. I wasn’t talented enough to be more than a chorus member in theater, but I hung around theater kids (including my brother) enough to get a kick out of that setting.
For my next audio book, I searched on the name of the reader of Romantic Comedy, Kristen Sieh, and checked out Ashton Hall by Lauren Belfer. This is the first time that I chose an audiobook using that method. It worked for me. I’m devouring this book as quickly as I did Tom Lake.
After a false start (I DNFed a very popular book that I was sure I was going to like), I found an e-book for my phone that is also working, so far — Beach Read by Emily Henry.
What are you watching?
I enjoyed Good Omens 2 and wrote a review revealing why it was just my kind of weird.
What are you doing?
Our book group had one of our best discussions ever in our 15-year history about Jane Crow: The Life of Pauli Murray by Rosalind Rosenberg. I wrote a long review covering lots of what we learned and talked about.
I enjoyed compiling my Spring TBR on Tuesday, even if I already DNFed one of the books on it.
How are you this fine Sunday?
Everyone in our part of the world is waiting for definitive spring weather. I hope your spring — and ours — will arrive very soon!

We are having crazy weather here, too. It doesn’t know what it wants to do. Happy Sunday, Joy!
It dropped into the 40s here, so I knew that you were probably experiencing a bit more extreme version of my return-to-winter.
I’m so glad to hear that Jane Crow provoked such a good book discussion. I was sad to miss my book group this week. I can’t wait to talk to some of the members and see how the discussion of the book about Tammy Duckworth’s life.
I loved the audiobook version of Tom Lake so much. Meryl Streep was an amazing reader, which I never doubted that she would be. I felt so transported by her, into the story. I hope it warms up for you – and for us too!
I don’t DNF often, but I’ve gotten better about doing so when I’m really not into a book. It usually happens to me with the more popular books. Have a great week!
I read a middle grade book about Pauli Murray last year for Cybils and I was amazed I hadn’t heard of her before. I am adding Jane Crow to my TBR as a possible book club selection. THank you.
