Sunday Salon for 17 December 2023
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
As I type this on Saturday, it’s raining, and it has been all day. But it looks like we’ll clear up for the early part of the week and even see some sunshine.
What are you reading?
After a slow start, I devoured Kiss Her Once for Me by Alison Cochrun. I wasn’t sure I wanted as much angst as the main character, Ellie, displayed in the first few scenes. This book was recommended by a friend, so I stuck it out.
I was hooked when we got ourselves into a modern marriage of convenience plot. And then, that plot took a twist. So much fun! Much of the book is set during the Christmas season so we get cookies and tree decorations and snow — perfect for this time of year.
What are you watching?
Our favorite movie this week was Moving On (2023), which was recently released on DVD. Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda star in a revenge plot against the widower of their recently deceased friend. This is obviously a dark comedy. We don’t always go for that, but this one worked for us. It’s so great to see movies with older characters.
What are you doing?
We celebrated the holiday with a family gathering today, our first since 2019. There have been sad and happy changes in the family since then, so everything was different about this gathering — new hosts, new location, new day, new time-of-day. We had a beautiful tree, good food, and fun presents for the little ones. Before today, I’d barely met the two youngest children, so it was fun to reconnect.
How are you this fine Sunday?
Oh, always nice when a book manages to surprise us like that! Sunds like it turned out pretty fun.
Sounds like you had a nice early Christmas celebration! I’m looking forward to mine on Christmas Day itself; it’ll be cosy, just my parents, my sister, me and my wife.
Here’s my post!
I need to see that movie. I love Lily and Jane so much!
Glad you had a festive family gathering!
It’s nice you had a great family gathering. Fortunately, we aren’t celebrating until Christmas because I will be spending Sunday wrapping presents.
Nice that you were able to get together with family!
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I am so glad that you could have a family get together. It is nice to reconnect after years of not being able to do so.
I loved Kiss Her Once for Me too. It is a great seasonal read! Glad you had a fun family get-together!
It’s wonderful to be able to get together again. We did that yesterday and again today. It’s been (literally) years since I’ve seen some people.
I’ve been looking for a holiday book. With cookies and tree decorations and snow, it sounds like Kiss Her Once for Me is perfect.
Glad you got to celebrate Christmas with family again! Moving On sounds very good, I’m adding it to my list to check out.
Glad to hear you ended up enjoying the book despite a tricky start. Happy to hear you enjoyed some family time after so much time apart. Have a lovely week!
We have some sad changes this year, too, as my mother-in-law has passed away and my mother has moved at least temporarily, and we haven’t seen family on either side very much at all, since Covid. We’re hosting a Christmas Eve gathering for everyone to meet the new baby who lives in Maryland, too far from Massachusetts for lots of visiting, but we will be running the air filter if it’s too cold to have windows open!
I’m glad you were able to get together with family for the holidays. I love the holiday reads too! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
Glad to hear this Christmas will be a happy one. Ours will be quiet as there are people dealing with health issues that we hope they will overcome soon. Have a great holiday with the family.
Well, I’m only getting around to this on Tuesday, so Sunday was quite busy! I don’t feel ready for the holidays but I try to relax and focus on what’s really important. Glad you could have some family time.
