Summary: If you want to make someone crazy — say, the friend who is the most organized person you know — just tell her that you’re getting married. In three weeks. If that’s not enough, add in a murder at the tuxedo shop. Can Amy plan her best friend’s wedding and solve the mystery before any more local business owners are targeted?
Thoughts: This was a fun addition to Janel Gradowski’s Culinary Competition mystery series. Aside from the usual mouth-watering food descriptions, Doughnuts & Deadly Schemes also gives us beautiful dresses, stunning table displays, and exquisite wedding venues. I love the setting for this series, a small Michigan town, with lots of interesting businesses and characters who rely on them.
Appeal: Cozy mystery lovers should eat this series up! Although the stories stand on their own as mysteries, the regular characters develop from book to book, so I recommend reading the series in order:
And, then, Book #3, Doughnuts & Deadly Schemes.
Challenges: This is my second book for the Foodies Read Challenge of 2015. I need to step it up if I’m going to reach nine books this year!
Thanks, Beth Fish Reads, for hosting Weekend Cooking each week.
You know how much I love a cozy culinary mystery. Adding this one to my library wish list.
Sounds like a good one!
I need to get back to reading foodie cozies.
I do love the cooking and novel combination, so this one is going on my TRL, after the first in the series.
You picked a good foodie cozy mystery! Janel has talent and she will be up to book 20 in her series before you know it. I love a series, I like following along with the same characters and seeing how they grow and form relationships.
Great review!
I can see a cozy culinary in my near future! Cheers from Carole’s Chatter!
I love Janel’s writing! This is such a fun foodie mystery series.
This looks like a perfect read for me in this season!
Thank you so much for recommending the books and giving the titles in order. I have read two series lately where the publisher listed the books either in reverse order or out of order, which can be quite frustrating.
Yum!
I keep meaning to try this author before the series gets too long!
Cozy culinary mysteries? is a new genre for me, haha, but it sounds very funny
