Readers’ Workouts — June 10
Welcome to Readers’ Workouts, the weekly event where book lovers share workout stories, goals, successes, and challenges.
I’m right on track to meet my exercise goal of 1400 minutes in June. I’m going to have to get creative today since it’s raining. I’ve been walking or working in the yard for the past month or so. A dance and stretching session would feel good about now to get all the kinks out.
My most interesting workout was Sunday’s Garden Tour. I parked far from each garden (which also helped me avoid the jam that always forms at the front of each house) and ended up walking over 11,000 steps that day. I’ll put up photos on Saturday.

After practicing my kata all weekend, my instructor put me through techniques last night
I have another hour with him on Friday, which is a day off work. I think I’m getting closer to the belt test. The nice thing about the studio I train at is that you never fail a belt test (unless you get injured really early on). The down side of that is you have to be 100% ready in the eyes of your instructor to get a test date…
I think I like that training philosophy, even if it does take longer. Must be great for confidence!
Walked over 18,000 steps on Saturday. So close to 20K!
That’s a lot! The highest number of steps I’ve managed since I got my FitBit is 11,820. Now, I’ll have to figure out how I can get a 20k day!
I should get a pedometer, something small to clip on.
I’ve been happy with the FitBit One, so far. It clips to my bra so I hardly notice it. It also does provides some useful sleep data.
My husband thinks I’m crazy but I bought some blue blocking glasses to wear in the evening. It’s supposed to help you sleep better, reset your Circadian rhythm or whatever. I’ve only been doing it for a couple of days so it’s hard to tell if it’s helping or not.
Went to the gym last Thursday and did some of the weight machines, but we were out of town over the weekend. Last night I went for a run. I got a BIA watch and posted a picture on my facebook page that shows my route, time, etc. It’s kind fun to keep track.
Not crazy at all, I use flux (https://justgetflux.com/) on my computer which turns off the blue-toned light after sundown.
Nice job on your exercise goals! I am starting my training for a half marathon on June 30. Until then, I’m running about 4x week doing distances between 2-4 miles at a time. Trying to work on my pacing and just keep in shape until training begins. I am a little nervous but mostly very excited! The most I’ve ever done is a 15K so this is going to be a great challenge for me.
Training for a half marathon is very exciting! Good luck!
