Anglophile Fridays — questions for Bloggiesta and Sunday Salon bloggers
Here’s an idea that I had during Bloggiesta: Anglophile Fridays, a weekly meme / blog hop about England (we won’t get too picky about borders, if people want to make that Great Britain). Anglophile Fridays would be modeled after Dreaming of France, the Monday meme at An Accidental Blog. My Dreaming of France posts added excitement and self-expression and camaraderie to 2013, the year of my first trip to France. I want the same thing this year as I’m anticipating a hoped-for trip to England in September.
Anglophile Fridays would invite all kinds of posts: book / TV / movie reviews, photos, reports about trips, wishes for future trips, opinions, lists, guides, quotes, links, resources, personal stories, interviews, and research posts.
So, here are my questions to other book bloggers:
- Is someone already doing this? Is there a weekly meme for gathering posts about England?
- Would you participate if such a meme were to come to life?
I appreciate your information and opinion related to this project. Even though this isn’t my usual format for Sunday Salon, I’m linking it in the Facebook group because I want as many responses to this idea as I can get so I can decide if it’s worth the effort.
I’ve been mulling over doing something like this for awhile now. I would totally participate! I’ll even help you organize if you want.
This sounds fun, Joy!
I love books set in England…or The British Isles, so this sounds like a fun event.
Here’s MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES
I haven’t seen one! I probably wouldn’t have too many to add, but I do have a few older posts about Harry Potter that are strictly England-based (making authentic fish and chips after reading a few English authors, visiting the Warner Brothers HP studios in London. . .). I think it’s a great idea!
I’ve not seen something like this. And yes, I would participate! Or at least try to now and then. How’s that for commitment?!
Happy Bloggiesta by the way. Sorry I don’t comment more often here. But I am lurking a lot!
I’ve not come across anything like this Joy – sounds a good idea. Would be even better if those of us from other parts of the UK could participate. Can I make a plea please??
Of course! Do I have to change the name? For some reason, I just love the word Anglophile. But I would change it if it’s offensive. I would be happy to include a little geography lesson in each post to make it clear that I know and others should know that Wales and Scotland and Northern Ireland are not England, but this meme welcomes post about all four.
Brainstorming…What do you think of “British Isles Friday”?
I know I’d enjoy reading these posts, and can try to join in! (Would probably be once a month for me, at the most, though, so I won’t be much help.)
I don’t read many British books, but I do think I could manage to post once in a while since you can post recipes etc.
I would find ways to participate. I do read a lot of British books, my family is all still in England, and I lived there when I was younger.
I am moving right now so I am not being to active online but that should settle down after May 1st
I love this idea! The Victorian Era is one of my favourites and though not English (being from Ireland), Oscar Wilde is one of my favourite authors ever. I would definitely participate when I can… I have been thinking about re-reading some of my favourite classics and reviewing them after all…
I love this idea — I would definitely participate. I’m a bit of an Anglophile myself!
I probably would participate. Sounds fun!
I like the idea and would definitely participate. My only comment is that there already seems to be a lot of memes on Fridays – maybe another day would be better? Or is that just me? But go for it. I know lots of people will take part.
I would definitely participate!! I’ve looked around for a while and haven’t found any.

I think this is a great idea too. I wouldn’t be able to participate every week, but am certain that I could from time to time. Makes me think someone should do an Australian one…… (but I don’t have the time, maybe in the future if someone else doesn’t do it).
I don’t think there is anything like this around right now. I would participate only when I am reading a book set in England. I am not a true anglophile so it would be a stretch for me. Love the idea.

Well guess what! I’ve been doing a regular Anglophile Friday post on my blog since about 2010. Just today i did a search on Anglophile to see if there was anyone out there who is also doing this. And for the commenter who mentions British, my understanding is that Anglophile actually refers to all of the UK, not just England. Check out my Anglophile Friday. Nice to find you!
