Readers’ Workouts — January 21
Welcome to Readers’ Workouts, the weekly event where book lovers share workout stories, goals, successes, and challenges.
I’m right on schedule for exercising 1400 minutes in January. We walked twice on our best weather day to make up for short walks on a couple of our worst days. I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do today when our high temperature will be 40 degrees lower than yesterday. If I were more acclimated, I might just bundle up even when it’s 13 degrees out. But, it’s hard to imagine after wearing just a light jacket for my walk yesterday. I may have to pull out an exercise DVD and workout indoors.
How are you coping with the weather and other barriers to exercise?

Moved to using fitbit has created an issue for me, I’m forgetting to log mileage on daily mile.
We have had a nice winter here, with cold, snow. I’m pleased! Like you, I bundle up and get out most days. We seldom fall below 20F, making outdoor fitness always an option.
Have a great week!
Last night was sparring class with 3 instructors & 7 students, so it was an intense workout. Fitbit says I slept well, which is why I do it. Karate is cheaper than therapy & less side effects than sleeping pills
I took it easy…too easy…over the holidays and have just started back into my normal routine of cardio (preferably running) one day, weights the next. Sad to see how much my fitness deteriorated over just that time. It was finally mild enough to go running yesterday and my body was screaming in agony far earlier than it should have. But all said I’m excited to be back at it. Signed up for my first 10K of the year for mid-March, so now I’m in training mode and happy to be back there.
One of the upsides, I suppose, of not being an outdoorsy person is that the very cold weather we’re having doesn’t really affect my day-to-day life or exercise routine. I had my second Barreworks class on the weekend and love it completely. On track and continuing the weekly routine of two regular workouts, one cardio & strength training class, and one Barreworks class this week.
Last week I did a 45 minute Nike Training Club workout that was pretty intense! I also went outside for a run in the cold on Saturday. I was experiencing some back pain through the weekend so I’ve been taking it easy, but I should do another Nike workout at home tonight since Boot Camp was cancelled due to the snow!
After a long absence, I HAVE RETURNED! 11 months of pregnancy, miscarriage, more pregnancy, and birth recovery meant very little working out for me. But as of this morning I am back on the horse. Did 2 miles in 25 mins on my treadmill. Can’t wait to get back to 8 minute miles, but I have to start somewhere. I wish I could run outside but it’s below zero with the windchill out here…hoping for some outdoor runs next week if it hits the 30’s!
Welcome back! And welcome to the new little one.
I was averaging about 10,000 steps a day which is my goal. This weekend I fell off the wagon and today and tomorrow I will probably not because of all the snow. On the other hand, snow shoveling is good exercise! Still using my fitbit, but I think I need to add the food log piece to it. I haven’t been using that.
