Sunday Salon — December 29
Time: // 7:56 am
The scene: // A gray cold day, but can’t complain since it was nearly 60 degrees for our walk yesterday.
Listening to: // Happy New Year! at Accuradio
Reading: // I started my first book for the New Year’s Resolution Reading Challenge: Reading Like a Writer by Francine Prose. There’s a weird meta-thing going on where I’m reading it like a writer. Fortunately, it’s beautifully written so I can benefit from that!
On my phone, I’m reading the anthology Wild Invitation by Nalini Singh. About half-way through the first story, I realized I’d read it before, but it had a Christmas-setting so it was a fun re-read. Some of the others will be new to me.
Blogging about: //
I’m celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas through Epiphany with book lists to support resolutions:
Day 1: Be More Fit
Day 2: Be Happier
Day 3: Be a Better Cook
Watch later today for Be Smarter about Money.
The third in a trio of bread puddings, Chocolate, makes a terrific New Year’s Eve dessert (especially with hard sauce).
Did you miss it on Christmas Day? I posted the Read Along for the New Year’s Resolution Reading Challenge, along with a Giveaway! The Read Along book is The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. The Giveaway book is the paperback of last year’s Read Along book, The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg.
On Christmas Eve, I created the list of books that I’ll be reading for the New Year’s Resolution Reading Challenge. If you’re not clear on what this challenge is all about, that example should help.
Participating in: // The New Year’s Resolution Reading Challenge. The sign-up post is up and running. Along with the post to register for the Read Along and Giveaway. You’re welcome to join either or both!
Looking forward to: // Hosting two Twitter chats this week!
On New Year’s Eve, I’ll take over an hour of the all-day Twitter Party thrown by Wordsmith Studio to run a workshop on goal setting. I’m pretty excited! Most of the participants will be working with goals related to writing, but come join us even if your New Year dreams are about other things. The goal-setting hour of the New Year’s Eve Bash will be Tuesday at 2PM Eastern, 1PM Central, Noon Mountain, 11AM Pacific, 10AM Alaskan, and 9AM Hawaiian. That’s 7PM UTC, so maybe some of my friends in Europe and Africa can join. Hashtag #WSchat.
The second chat to talk about books for the New Year’s Resolution Reading Challenge will be on New Year’s Day. This is a great place to get ideas for books to read to support your New Year dreams, no matter what they are. We’ll meet on Wednesday, New Year’s Day, at 9PM Eastern / 8 Central / 7 Mountain / 6 Pacific / 5 Alaskan / 4 Hawaiian. That’s 1PM on January 2 in Sydney so maybe some of my friends in the Pacific Rim can join. The hashtag is #WSchat.
What are you up to this fine Sunday?
