Sunday Salon — November 17
Time: // 8:32 am
The scene: // A changing scene with a mix of clouds and sun. We have a predicted high temperature of over 70°F. Weird. The weather radio just went off — we’re under a tornado watch until 4pm. This is not tornado season. But that’s what can happen when the skies are unsettled and it’s 70°F in November.
Listening to: // My Sunday playlist, currently “Moonshadow” by Cat Stevens.
Reading: // I was going to send Provence, 1970 by Luke Barr back to the library and pick up something by M.F.K. Fischer first, since I’ve somehow never managed to read her. But, I decided to look through Provence, 1970 first to see if I wanted to read it at all….and, I couldn’t put it down. So, that’s what I’m reading. Does it feel like, sometimes, that books pick you instead of the other way around?
Watching: // I’ve been enjoying the television series Once Upon a Time streamed from Netflix. I watch it while I exercise and while I work on a big filing project. This fun adventurous romp features fairy tale characters living in a town in Maine.
Blogging about: //
- The new photo exhibit at the St. Louis Art Museum and the class we took there.
- A letter my grandpa wrote while he was training for World War I.
Participating in: // I got busy with Nonfiction November this week. Besides my theme post where I claimed expertise in diet books, I wrote two nonfiction book reviews:
- What the Plus! Google+ for the Rest of Us by Guy Kawasaki
- Brave Genius by Sean B. Carroll, which had a lovely liberation of Paris quote for Veterans Day
I had a great time hopping the linked posts in the Week 2 Review of Nonfiction November that Kim of Sophisticated Dorkiness wrote on Friday. The discussion theme for this week is Book Pairing: Match a fiction book with a nonfiction book that you would recommend. That should be fun! This week’s activities for Nonfiction November will be hosted at Regular Rumination.
Looking forward to: // A walk without a coat!
What are you up to this fine Sunday?
Yes, I agree….Books do pick me!
I have had that happen; sometimes the book does pick me
We are waiting for the bad weather that is due this evening and hope there will be no tornados. Right now the weather is wet but some sun is coming through. H
I heard about Provence, 1970 on a podcast not too long ago and it sounds like a wonderful book. The cover is so great, too. Glad it chose you!
I haven’t had a book pick me in a while but I love the feeling. So many of my favorite bloggers are loving Provence, 1970. I need to pick it up now. Stay safe during the tornado warning.
The weather in the Midwest has been crazy today! Thankfully it’s been quiet where I am, but I know friends in some very strange patterns. Once Upon a Time is a fun show, I’ve enjoyed watching it when I catch up in binges.
I have suddenly found myself addicted to Netflix….the streaming kind. And the show I’ve been watching had five seasons: Damages. I love Glenn Close when she’s portrayed as cold and evil, and I’m a fan of legal drama.
But my exercise bike is in the bedroom…and it’s not set up for streaming! sigh.
As for books picking me….that does happen. Sometimes, I’ll be in the library browsing, which is happening more lately, and one will seem to call to me. LOL
Enjoy! Here’s MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES
