Sunday Salon — September 1
Good morning and welcome to September!
Time: // 8:15 am
The scene: // one last hot day before we cool off to the mid-80s tomorrow in time for our Labor Day picnic
Listening to: // My Good Morning playlist on Spotify — Three Little Birds by Bob Marley & the Wailers. “Don’t worry ’bout a thing ‘cuz every little thing gonna be all right.” My favorite playlist resource: Book Review: Your Playlist Can Change Your Life. It really did change my life!
Currently reading: // How Children Succeed by Paul Tough. I’m enjoying it more than I thought I might since I don’t have much to do with children these days. But it fits in very well with some of the reading that I do about race in America and also reminds me of the various positive psychology books like The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (The Power of Habit — Group Read — Part 3 Discussion). How Children Succeed is the Read Along book for the Back to School Reading Challenge. We’ll be discussing it through September so there’s still plenty of time to join us: How Children Succeed by Paul Tough — A Back to School Read Along
Blogging about: // I finished my project to Live Like Julia for a week, Live Like Julia — One Week Finished, a Lifetime to Savor. It was fun. You can do it, too. Karen Karbo, author of Julia Child Rules is still looking for participants: Wanted: Bloggers to #LiveLikeJulia For One Week and Write About It.
Participating in: // The Back to School Reading Challenge (Join us! We’re reading to learn new things through September).
What are you up to this fine Sunday?
Good morning!
The Julia Child project looks like fun…now I want to watch (again!) my copy of Julie & Julia.
Here’s MY SUNDAY UPDATES/MAILBOX MONDAY
I hope you have a lovely picnic tomorrow Joy
Congrats on finishing the Julia Child challenge! I may check it out later today.
Hope you have a great time at the picnic tomorrow!
I read Paul Tough’s book not too long ago and was really impressed by it. Though he goes off on a few unnecessary tangents, most of his points are spot on with the problems I’ve seen in the schools I’ve taught at. I’m not sure if you’ve gotten to the point where he starts talking about the chess team at one of the schools, but there’s a documentary that focuses specifically on them Brooklyn Castle (http://tinyurl.com/lomuo3c) – I saw it earlier this year and it was fantastic.
Thanks! I’ll take a look at that documentary when I get to that part of the book. That will be fun!
Hope you’re enjoying your picnic today (and that the weather is temperate and fine).
Yesterday, I enjoyed my Pilates Reformer class in the morning, ran errands, completed a few loads of laundry, and did a jog-bike-walk/jog workout at the gym. This morning we went for an early morning, 10-mile bike ride at the beach before it got crowded (and hot), and now I’m catching up on blogging, email, and various social media accounts. I really need to do something relaxing & fun for tonight – maybe we should take our hot dogs and salad to the park for a picnic?
