Readers’ Workouts September 4
New month, new week, back to school, waning moon — all good reasons to pump up our workouts! Readers’ Workouts is a weekly event inviting book lovers to get in touch with their inner athletes. Post your progress on your blog and link to the post in the list below. Or, tell us about your exercise week in the comments.
I decided that my yard work combined with my Wii games (Wii Fit Plus and Wii Walk It Out) weren’t giving me the fitness level I want. I promised myself a new Wii game for completing 15 Wii workouts last month, so I’ve ordered Zumba Fitness 2, which reviewers consider to be a good workout. I already own Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout and that’s a good one, but it’s exactly the movements I’m trying to be careful about while gardening is my major activity. My most important fitness goal for the summer is “don’t get injured.” I’ll get back to boxing in the winter.
In the meantime, I’ve started incorporating some of my DVDs back into the picture. The month has started slow with rain and holiday activities, but I’ve already managed two video workouts. Last night I loosened up my hip joints with Cardio Hula (Exercising in Virtual Hawaii) and on Saturday night I stretched with Candlelight Yoga. So, I’m up to 80 of the 1400 minutes I want to exercise in September and 2 of the 15 DVD or Wii workouts.
How are your workouts going?
Your motivation and strenuous workouts inspire me! Go, girl!!
Thanks! I’m going!
Hula sounds like fun
It is fun. It’s a fairly easy workout but really loosens everything up.
oh my gosh, I love Zumba! I haven’t been able to take it at my gym in a while, though, because I can’t make the time anymore. But every once in a while the stars align and I can get there. Then it’s a treat. I hope you enjoy the Wii game. Shake that booty!!!
Last week I came in with a total of 339 minutes, mostly biking. I’ve got my big bike event next Sunday (NJ Gran Fondo.. 107.4 mile bike event. Yikes!) so I’ve spent the last week or two really just focusing on that. The rest of this week will be low key, minimal workouts–just enough to stay limber but nothing tiring. Maybe an easy 20 miles or less on the bike once or twice between now and Friday.
For the whole month of August, I finished with 1296 minutes = 21.6 hours. Not bad considering I was on vacation the first week and didn’t log anything then.
p.s. I linked up my recent post about anticipating the Gran Fondo instead of my monthly fitness log. Just for a change and in case anyone was interested in reading about my recent biking challenges and anxieties. lol!
That’s some great reading, Christine. Thanks for telling your story — such an inspiration!
Way to go, Joy! Candlelight Yoga sounds lovely
All right, September. Here we go! I’m off to Jamaica at the end of the month, which is good incentive to tighten my tummy. My goal is:
– 2 – 3 gym workouts that include a combination of 20 min cardio, 20 min ballet barre, and 20 min strength training
– 1 dance class per week
I should say, 2-3 gym workouts per week, not in total for the month.
Cool! A trip to Jamaica is definitely motivation!
