It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
Last week’s post were about exercise and the heat (Readers’ Workouts July 3) and the 2012 Farm Bill (Book Review: Food Fight by Daniel Imhoff).
Read
I finished the ebook I was reading on my phone, No Longer a Gentleman by Mary Jo Putney, a historical romance full of adventure. The heroine spies for the English, working against Napoleon. The hero has been imprisoned in France for ten years. She rescues him and thus begins a tale with chase scenes, Channel crossings, and changes in both of their lives.
This was the first full-length novel I’ve read in the ebook format. Who knew that it was going to take a reader app on my phone to make that finally work for me? I always assumed that when I got a smart phone I’d put a few games on it for entertainment in odd moments. It turns out that I like having a novel in my pocket a whole lot better!
Reading
I’m still reading three books that I started last week:
- The Hundred Year Diet: America’s Voracious Appetite for Losing Weight by Susan Yager
- Abdication by Juliet Nicolson
- Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott
I’ve started working through another classic writing book: Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg.
The new novel that I downloaded into my phone is The Bro-Magnet by Lauren Baratz-Logsted. For some reason from things I read, I thought it was a romance. It’s not — at least, not in the genre sense of the word. Rather, it’s a funny story told in first person from the point of view of Johnny Smith who is popular among the guys but clueless around women.
Will Read
I have no idea — I’m pretty flummoxed that I’m reading five books at once!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? I hope you will stop by!
One of these days I will have to get a cell phone that is complicated enough to read books on. So far, I am managing without. I do my ebook reading on my Kindle. I’m not sure I could read five books at once. I have trouble with two. My Monday Report is here. Happy reading!
very nice blog. I just picked up this genre and so far i am liking the novels I’ve read. Happy Reading. http://sidnereading.blogspot.com
It’s amazing how convenience makes it easier for us to read ebooks. Bird by Bird and Writing Down the Bones are two of my favorite writing books. Have a good week.
I loooove reading e-books! I dont’ have a smart phone, but I keep my iPad with me at all times just for reading. It’s so nice to carry around – I can carry 200 books in my purse AND I don’t have to worry about fines. Ha!
Happy reading this week
