It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
Dewey’s Read-a-Thon was very good for my reading last week. Here are the two posts that reported my progress with that:
Before the Read-a-Thon, I visited the St. Louis Art Museum and, among other things, saw a stunning photo of a library, included in this post: Photo Review: Library by Andreas Gursky.
We’re still reading and working out! Here’s last week’s collection of links: Readers’ Workouts April 17. Check back tomorrow for a new linky list and join us in supporting our exercise goals.
Read
During the Read-a-Thon, I finished the book for the Diversity Book Club meeting on Thursday: At the Dark End of the Street: Black Women, Rape, and Resistance–a New History of the Civil Rights Movement from Rosa Parks to the Rise of Black Power by Danielle L. McGuire. We’re going to have a great discussion because this is rich material that has relevance to today’s headlines.
I started and finished The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith and it was the perfect book for late in the day of the Read-a-Thon, light in tone but enough weight to keep things interesting. I just loved taking this journey to London with Hadley and riding along with all of her experiences.
Reading
In the middle of the Read-a-thon, I started Why Calories Count by Marion Nestle and Malden Nesheim. It’s good and I’m looking forward to finishing it, but I had too much non-fiction on my plate for the Read-a-thon, so I switched to the YA novel. I’ll pick this one up again when I finish my current lunch-time book, Do I Look Fat in This? by Rhonda Britten.
I saw on Twitter that there were people mulling over the question: what does one read after the drama and excitement of Read-a-thon? It is a puzzle. Fortunately, I had a busy, non-reading sort of Sunday, so the decision of what to read last night wasn’t so overshadowed by the Read-a-Thon. I went with Quatrain, a collection of four novellas by Sharon Shinn. I’m generally not that big a fan of novellas, but once in a while when I’m feeling a bit flustered, they seem perfect. I read the first one last night and was very pleased with my choice.
Will Read
I’ll get back to Why Calories Count late this week, I suspect. I think I’m going to continue to need very diverting fiction choices for the next several weeks. If the mood seems to call for a gentler book, I’ll go with a Regency romance, More than a Mistress by Mary Balogh. If it needs more excitement, I’ll turn to the next book in the Rachel Morgan urban fantasy series, Pale Demon by Kim Harrison.
What are you reading?
It’s Monday! What Are Your Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila of Book Journey. Be sure to check out her post today to see her selections and the list of links to all the other participating bloggers.
The Mary Balogh book is good
I liked it! I have been wanting to read “Statistical” for a while now, so I’m off to find it at my library. In the mood for a good London story
Happy Reading this week! It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading??
These are all new titles to me – will have to check them out.
Have a good week!

yay!
Sounds like you had a great success reading this weekend. I wasn’t even aware of Dewey this time but I did read a book (husband was traveling, time to relax).
I’m back to calorie counting too… I have five pounds that come on and I take off… well now I’m taking them off! I am hoping to have this done by May 12 (Tough Mudder).
Have a wonderful week!
