Dewey’s Read-a-Thon All Day!
Join us at Dewey’s Read-a-Thon!
Update 12:13am CDT: I finished The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight! Yay! It’s always fun if I can start and finish a book on Read-a-Thon day. I’m off to bed. Night all! Happy reading to those who are going through the night or starting up again in your morning.
Update 7:09pm CDT: Mid-event survey:
1) How are you doing? Sleepy? Are your eyes tired?
I’m doing fine. Not sleepy yet and my eyes are fine — probably because I have been switching activities a lot!
2) What have you finished reading?
I finished At the Dark End of the Street by Danielle L. McGuire. I read a little of Why Calories Count by Marion Nestle and Malden Nesheim, but it’s time to be done with nonfiction for the day. So, now I’m reading The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith.
3) What is your favorite read so far?
It looks like The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight will be the most fun!
4) What about your favorite snacks?
Dark chocolate chips with nuts — who needs candy bars?
5) Have you found any new blogs through the readathon? If so, give them some love!
I’ve been cheering so I’ve found tons of new blogs! But let’s go with Jenn’s Lost in a Great Book.
Update 1:54pm CDT: I finished a book! At the Dark End of the Street by Danielle L. McGuire. I had already started it before this morning, so I read 110 pages. That doesn’t sound like much until you realize that this was a scholarly book, plus I spent close to a couple of hours cheering earlier. I’m very pleased because this is our book club selection for Thursday night’s meeting. It’s great to have it finished!
I’m up! Here’s what I’m reading:
I’ll see you all during my cheer hours, which I converted to Central Time: 10-11am, 2-3pm, and 6-7pm.
Here are my answers to the Introductory Questionnaire, found here: Hour 1 – Good morning! (Or afternoon! Or evening!)
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Kirwood, Missouri — a suburb of St. Louis. In fact, one of our first nicknames was “the queen of the suburbs.”
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Tolstoy and the Purple Chair by Nina Sankovitch
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
My normal planned snacks (this is the life I lead now). But they’re good! 1/4c of nuts mixed with dark chocolate chips around 3:00pm and one slice of bread (baked fresh in my bread machine yesterday!) with my special yogurt spread around 5:00pm.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
The things I “should” be doing instead of reading today are: find the perfect purse for our trip to Ireland, plant greens in my garden, email the organizer of the community garden, start Brussels sprouts seeds, write, and go through the overwhelming pile of stuff in my In Box that I mean to clear every day but haven’t in awhile. There. I feel better — now I know where to go tomorrow to pick up my life again!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I’m going to count pages, but not minutes or hours read. I’m always disappointed by the amount of time I actually manage to read versus blog and cheer and whatever distractions to the read-a-thon that I allow myself. So, I just won’t count that! I’m here to have fun!
Joy, I think it’s a great idea to count pages read instead of hours. I love cheering during the read-a-thon and it takes a lot of time away from reading. Your nuts and chocolate chips snack sounds delicious.
Happy reading.
Good luck, Joy! I am not participating, but I love the idea to count pages, too. Makes much more sense.
Your snacks sound delicious! I’ve also decided not to track the time I spend on the various readathon activities. I’m just going to count what I get read.
I’m excited for the third book on your list. I’ve been wanting to read that. Also, I love that you wrote it on a dry erase board. Great idea!
I just finished my first book too. Like you, I started it earlier in the week. I think for book #2 I’m going to read something light. I also have The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight in my stack too. I hope you’re enjoying the Read-a-Thon. Counting pages is a good idea. Did you set a goal for yourself?
your food sounds as good as your books! LOL – have fun!
Hi Joy!! Just checking in! Congrats on finishing a book. The minute I saw chocolate on your post I realized I forgot my candy.
I am trying to snack healthy but I wanted a reward for finishing. Chocolate bar at 5am! LOL!
Thanks for following me on twitter, Joy! Looks like you are still going strong on the readathon
Love the whiteboard!!
