Read
Eleanor Brown’s The Weird Sisters got me thinking about siblings: Book Review: The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown.
I finally finished Zingerman’s Guide to Good Eating — I’ll work on getting my thoughts written about that for Saturday’s Weekend Cooking post.
Julie Garwood’s novel Sizzle was fun — a bumbling villain, a hot FBI agent hero, and a young filmaker heroine who is creative and dedicated. What’s not to like?
Reading
When I finished Sizzle, I started Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John and I’m having a hard time putting it down! I love the narrative voice and the vicarious involvement with a teen rock band.
Winning After Losing, written by actress Stacey Halprin who has kept off a 300 pound weight loss, is about how to maintain a healthy weight once you’ve attained it.
At odd moments, I’m also reading Enchantment by Guy Kawasaki and finding it a useful paradigm for how I want to be in the world.
Will Read
The next novel in the stack is another Young Adult: Sequins, Secrets, and Silver Linings by Sophia Bennett. I’m also about ready to make my third (fourth?) attempt to read a book on my iPad. That will be either the mystery Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear or the memoir I Am What I Am by John Barrowman and Carole E. Barrowman.
Sounds you had a fun reading week, Joy. Is the iPad reading going OK? I wonder if the screen is a little too big, but maybe it’s close to the size of a book?
Happy reading!
I love the title Five Flavors of Dumb. I look forward to your review.
Happy Reading!
I was thinking the same thing Martha did about the title Five Flavors of Dumb. Sounds funny. I’m also curious about the Julie Garwood book. I used to read all her books but haven’t read one in a couple of years. Just the little tease you gave there tells me this one is good.
