Booking Through Thursday: Resolutions
Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme that asks a question about books and reading. This week’s question is “Any New Year’s reading resolutions?” Read the comments to the post for other people’s responses.
Resolution One. Complete the challenges that I signed up for yesterday. I just added up the books required on my new Challenges page and, if I don’t have any overlaps, that will be 49 books. I hereby resolve to seek out books that will count for more than one challenge!
Resolution Two. Read 8 books about how to write creative nonfiction.
Resolution Three. Read 34 books that support my healthy lifestyle. That seems ambitious, especially given Resolutions One and Two, but I’m going for the gold here. I read 36 books that supported my healthy lifestyle in the last sixteen months and the practice has been a vital part of my weight loss. Now that I’m approaching the end game, I need even more help in the tricky endeavor of maintaining the weight loss. If I had a coach, she would be saying this is the time to dig deeper not slack off, so 34 more books it is. Why that number? 36 + 34 = 70 and my goal is to lose 70 pounds all together, so it’s one book per pound.
That gives me one resolution that promotes engagement with the book blogging community, one resolution to kickstart my writing, and one resolution to finish strong in my weight loss effort. That seems appropriately balanced. I love what books can do for me in 2011.
