Top Ten Books Read in 2014
For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, The Broke and The Bookish asks us what are the favorite books we’ve read so far this year.
Since I’ve been reading a good mix of fiction and nonfiction, I’m going to divide my list in half.
Nonfiction
5. Newton by Peter Ackroyd
4. My Love Affair with England by Susan Allen Toth
3. Sugar in the Blood by Andrea Stuart
2. The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
1. The Clockwork Universe by Edward Dolnick
Fiction
5. The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
4. Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
3. Cress by Marissa Meyer
2. Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson
1. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
What are your favorite books so far this year?
I don’t know if Cress is on my top 10 list but it was a fantastic read. Their Eyes Were Watching God is definitely on the list since I reread it earlier this year. I’m going to try hard to read War of Art this summer. If you enjoyed it, I know I will too.
I love Their Eyes Were Watching God. I need to reread it one of these days.
The Clockwork Universe sounds totally up my alley – I’m definitely going to be checking that out. I’m a total nerd for science and discovery related non-fiction
Have you read Gail Carriger’s other series? I need to try her YA series soon, but I still have book 5 to go in the other one!
I’m reading Blameless, Book 3. I thought the series was 4 books, but, you’re right, there’s 5! I’m reading it on my phone which is usually the slowest book I have going, so this will take a while.
The only one of these I’ve read is Their Eyes Were Watching God and it made my favorite list that year, too!
The only one I’ve read is Their Eyes Were Watching God as well! And that was back in graduate school, many moons ago.
I like the way you divided it into non-fiction and fiction. I only had two non-fiction on my list, but they were both great.
Ah, a fan of Neal Stephenson. Have you read Cryptonomicon? There was a 3 or 4 month period where I read his Baroque cycle books and Cryptonomicon. Very long books. very interesting.
Such great picks, the non-fiction reads look really interesting too! I really want to read The Lunar Chronicles!
Check out my TTT!
