Back to School Reading Challenge and Wednesday Book Club — August 14
Welcome to the Back to School Reading Challenge and Wednesday Book Club! We’re reading books to learn new things.
You’re welcome to join us even if you didn’t sign up! The challenge runs until September 30 so there’s still lots of time to participate.
Gina of the Book Dragon’s Lair wrote the first book review for the Back to School Reading Challenge: Eat and Run by Scott Jurek (#109). I found it interesting to read about a vegan runner when so much of what’s written about athletes and food these days seems to emphasize protein.
I’ve finished two of the books on my list (woohoo!): Telling Memories Among Southern Women by Susan Tucker and Julia Child Rules by Karen Karbo. I’m saving both of those reviews for events in a few weeks, but I’ll get them up eventually. Next up, I want to read The Whole Fromage by Kathe Lison because I have a post due for that in a week.
I read Julia Child Rules earlier than I expected to so that I can participate in activities surround Julia Child’s 101st birthday tomorrow. Watch this space!
Did everyone see that we chose a Read Along book? How Children Succeed — The Back to School Read Along Selection. I picked up How Children Succeed by Paul Tough at the library yesterday but have yet to open it. Has anyone else started reading it? Thoughts? Impressions?
If you have a review or other post related to The Back to School Reading Challenge, link to it below so we can all visit.
My husband brought home my copy yesterday but I’m finishing up another book first. My husband is out of town so I’ve plenty of time on my hands and I’ll probably get more reading done in the next few days than I have been.
I missed out on this challenge :(, but would love to join next time.
I’ve finished one book (linked above) and working my way through a second. Thanks for setting up this challenge!
I’ve finished two books for the challenge and now on my third. I haven’t started rereading How Children Succeed yet but will probably start on it after my Tuesday deadline.
Thank you for organizing this challenge – it’s keeping me more focused on reading for pleasure instead of just goofing off on the Internet!
