Book Bloggers and Librarians
Thing 15 for 23 Things for Professional Development is about conferences, including presenting at them. I’m speaking at the Missouri Library Association conference next month and I want your help.
The topic is: The World of Book Blogs. My idea is that librarians, who read book reviews professionally in order to be well-versed in books to recommend to patrons, would benefit from filling their RSS readers with book blog feeds. But, librarians need a map to the book blog world so as not to be confused by our memes, challenges, and acronyms (BEA is the same in the library world as the book blog world, but BBAW is meaningless to librarians).
So, book bloggers, what should librarians know about book blogs?
And, librarians, what do you find confusing about book blogs?
Thanks!
That’s a fantastic topic, Joy! I actually did a freelance piece for Readers’ Advisor News about this topic, which might help: http://www.readersadvisoronline.com/ranews/nov2010/ukura.html
There was also a recent piece in… I can’t remember where… that talked about this topic. Clearly, that’s not at all helpful.
I think the biggest thing is just that bloggers are people, and so connecting over a shared love of books and getting people to read is probably the best way to connect.
Thanks, Kim! That’s a terrific article.
