It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
It’s Monday! What Are Your Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila of Book Journey. Be sure to check out her post today to see her selections and the list of links to all the other participating bloggers.
First, I have news! I registered for the Book Blogger Convention this morning. It’s in New York City in late May, in conjunction with BookExpo America. I’m very excited! And a tad nervous. I’m counting on my New York friend and my fellow book bloggers to keep this Midwest small town girl from getting lost in the big city.
My post Book Review: The Black Girl Next Door by Jennifer Baszile went up Friday, the morning after our book club’s lively discussion.
I finished Ruthless Game by Christine Feehan. It was a bit slow in the middle but I adored the lead characters from the beginning so I was willing to ride through that part to a nice satisfying end, not exactly my idea of happy ever after, but happy for them!
The Way to Eat by David L. Katz and Maura Gonzalez took most of the month to read, in small chunks at breakfast and lunch. I’ll write up a review of it for Weekend Cooking. Maybe by the weekend I will have worked out what I think of it!
Little Bee by Chris Cleave is amazing me with the voice and experience of the title character, the contrasting voice of the second point of view character, and the masterful use of chronology.
I have started reading Macbeth by William Shakespeare in preparation for seeing the play later this week.
Watching the film The Smiling Lieutenant with Maurice Chevalier and Claudette Colbert made me curious about film-making from the early thirties, so I’ve started reading Pre-code Hollywood: Sex, Immorality, and Insurrection in American Cinema by Thomas Doherty.
Next up, something from a large stack of cookbooks featuring vegetables that I got from the library and The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook.
